Friday Five: Dog Days of Summer Edition

With only three weeks left of summer, make sure you take advantage of everything this sunny season has to offer. Take a walk by the lake, learn about Oakville’s history and enjoy some outdoor shopping and dining at these five Downtown Oakville spots:

Oakville Museum – 8 Navy Street Check out the Oakville Museum to learn all about Oakville’s rich history. Housed inside the Erchless Estate, a scenic lakefront property that was once home to Oakville’s founding family, the Oakville Museum offers exhibits, guided tours, rotating historical exhibits, educational programs and more. On now, you’ll find: Preserving Peace: Souvenirs of Peacekeeping; Hair: The Long and the Short of It; Freedom, Opportunity and Family: Oakville’s Black History; and The Underground Railroad: Next Stop Freedom.

Miso Sushi & Tapas – 221 Lakeshore Road East Enjoy the best of both worlds at this Japanese-Korean fusion restaurant – the only place in Oakville you can get bulgogi, japchae noodles and sushi in the same bento box. In addition to classic menu items like tempura, sushi and traditional Korean dishes, you’ll find a unique tapas menu featuring shareable items like kimchee dumplings, deep fried octopus balls , angus beef stone bowls and more.

Mendocino – 283 Lakeshore Road East Located on the north side of Lakeshore and Trafalgar, Mendocino is a fan favourite among fashion-forward millennials. We stopped by to check out the newly available line of ooyoo beauty lipsticks. These paraben- and cruelty-free lipsticks are created by mother-daughter-duo Jessica Kaplan and Norma Caron, and come in a variety of trendy fall colours.

Neob Lavender – 176 Lakeshore Road East If you’re walking down Lakeshore Road and suddenly encounter the calming scent of lavender, you’re probably in the vicinity of Neob. This boutique sells all-natural, plant-based products sourced from their farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake. They offer everything from essential oils and diffusers, to body lotion, hair care, cooking ingredients, and even cleaning products (pictured below) making it the perfect spot for a thoughtful gift or a special treat for yourself.

Tommy Bahama – 216 Lakeshore Road East The end of summer brings amazing sales on warm weather essentials. This weekend, take advantage of Tommy Bahama’s Friends & Family sale – save 25% on everything in store from now until Monday and enjoy the rest of the summer in style.
