Midnight Madness 2019: What’s Happening

For over 40 years, the Oakville community has gathered in Downtown Oakville every summer for Midnight Madness to enjoy an evening of sales, live entertainment, food and family fun.

With half of Lakeshore under construction this year, many people are wondering if Midnight Madness is still happening.

The answer is: yes! Downtown Oakville is still open for business during the Lakeshore Road Revitalization Project and we can’t wait to welcome the community for another amazing Midnight Madness event.

Here, we answer all of your questions about Midnight Madness 2019:

Will stores within the construction zone be open? Yes, participating stores within the construction zone (Lakeshore Road between Navy and Dunn Streets) will be open. The sidewalks in this area are still accessible, meaning you can easily get to all of your favourite stores and restaurants.

On Lakeshore Road east of Dunn Street, and on all side streets between Navy and Allan, the event will run as in previous years, with both sidewalks and roads accessible to pedestrians.

Will construction be taking place during the event? The construction crew typically finishes their work at 5 p.m. each day. Midnight Madness begins at 6 p.m., so we do not expect any construction to take place while the event is in progress.

Is it safe? We have been working closely with Halton Regional Police and the Town of Oakville in planning this year’s event to ensure it runs smoothly and safely. We have secured additional police services and adjusted event operations to work with the altered conditions. Event activations and gathering spaces will be within the open roadway areas, with sidewalk access maintained to the businesses in the project zone. Parking is as per usual for this event, with access to the outer lots maintained, plus the addition of the new lot at the former fire hall site. As always, we will have the free shuttle from the Oakville GO station, and bicycle parking in the Church Street parkade. The project area is secured by fencing. We thank everyone for their support of Downtown Oakville during the revitalization project.

Will there be the same amount of activities as in previous years?

Even though we are working with less space on Lakeshore Road this year, we are making use of the unaffected area of Lakeshore as well as the side streets and have music and activities planned throughout Downtown Oakville. Click here for a list of what’s happening where.

Where can I park during Midnight Madness? Click here for a parking map of Downtown Oakville. Note that, as in previous years, street parking along Lakeshore and on side streets between Robinson and Church will not be available during Midnight Madness.

In addition to these lots, you can also park in the residential areas south of Robinson Street and east of Allan Street, or in the new municipal lot at the old Fire Hall at Randall and Navy.

Construction will not have any impact on parking availability, as the spots in the construction zone along Lakeshore were never available during Midnight Madness.

To avoid having to search for parking, take advantage of free shuttle service from the Oakville GO Station to Downtown Oakville starting at 5:30 p.m. on July 19.
