Welcome to the Neighbourhood: Riyasat Indian Restaurant & Bar

Step inside Riyasat Indian Restaurant & Bar (263 Lakeshore Road East) and you’ll be instantly transported to another time and place.

From the traditional Indian dishes on the menu, to the murals of revered historical figures and landmarks that adorn the walls, to the sounds of the sitar playing in the background, Downtown Oakville’s newest Indian restaurant offers a fully authentic culinary experience.

Although open to the public since May, the restaurant officially celebrated its grand opening last Wednesday. In attendance were Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, the Downtown Oakville BIA, local media, friends and family, and community members.

Owner Mukesh Sharma hails from Brampton but has always loved Downtown Oakville and knew the vibrant shopping area would be the perfect location for his first restaurant venture. It seems the feeling is mutual; since opening its doors, Riyasat has been earning rave reviews from Oakville diners for its traditional take on Indian cuisine.

The word “riyasat” refers to a possession that is passed on from one generation to the next – a fitting name for a restaurant that serves up ancient family recipes. You won’t find North American favourites like butter chicken and samosas on the menu; rather, you’ll find authentic regional dishes from across India, making it a great spot for fans of Indian food who want to expand their horizons, as well as Indian diners looking for a taste of home.

During the grand opening, guests were treated to a generous feast, starting with a selection of appetizers: achari paneer tikka (spicy marinated cottage cheese), stuffed aloo tikki (deep fried potato patty stuffed with cottage cheese), tandoori soya chap and chicken tikka masala. After a cake cutting ceremony with the Mayor, guests then enjoyed a large Indian buffet of mouthwatering daal, lamb and chicken dishes.

We can’t wait to go back and explore more of their extensive menu, which offers a wide selection of both vegetarian and meat options. Riyasat is open for lunch and dinner and also offers catering. Reserve your table now by calling 905-844-5344 or visit riyasat.ca.
