Thank you in advance for helping to create the best Downtown in Canada in which to work, live, play and visit!

Smart technologies coming to Downtown Oakville

Parking sensors, digital information kiosks, public Wi-Fi and more will be installed by March 2022.

Downtown Oakville is getting digital with plans underway to install parking sensors, digital information kiosks, public Wi-Fi and more.  Beginning in October 2021, about 1,200 parking sensors will be installed in downtown Oakville streets and parking lots to better manage parking. The sensors will enable the town to provide real time information to help customers find available parking spaces in downtown Oakville. The phased installation will begin October 4, 2021 and will temporarily impact a minimal area of parking at a time as the installation progresses through downtown Oakville.

Will you be stocking your shelves for Diwali?

Diwali falls on November 4 this year, and the shopping season will be underway soon.  Known as the “festival of lights", Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.  It is the largest community festival and celebration of culture and heritage in India and is celebrated around the world.  It’s a time for everyone to convey wishes and love to near and dear ones with Diwali Gifts. In fact, Diwali is one of the most important holidays among Indo-Canadians, giving Canadian Companies a huge opportunity to build a rapport with one of the largest and fastest growing cultural groups in Canada.  Decorative items, sweets, chocolate, cake and dried fruit, hampers, silver and jewelry are popular gift items.

So, will you be stocking your shelves for Diwali?

According to Environics, "95% of Indian Canadians made a specific shopping trip in preparation for Diwali". We are preparing a blog in late October to promote how Downtown is a one-stop-shop. If you have or are planning to promote gift ideas, please email them to skay@oakvilledowntown.com and you could be featured in the blog.

Town of Oakville’s diversity, equity and inclusion community survey

As part of the town’s 2021 Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, public consultation is underway to collect important feedback on town programs, services and communications as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion.

To ensure they continue to take a holistic approach to diversity and inclusion in delivering town programs and services, and advance Council’s vision for Oakville to be the most livable town in Canada, community members are encouraged to complete the town's diversity, equity and inclusion survey and share input to help us identify opportunities for improvements.
