WIP WAP

Take a seat in an illuminated playground for all ages! Wip Wap is coming to Downtown Oakville March 4-23 as part of GLO DTO. This interactive art installation features luminous musical see-saws that invite visitors to co-create when the lights and music intensify as the planks swing up and down.

WIP WAP is the result of a world-wide co-creation that has been years in the making. This public art installation is a reflection of the diaspora of emotions expressed by millions of participants who have interacted with previous editions in this series. For years, passengers were not merely witnessing the artwork: they acted as catalysts for its activation, and through their participation and collaboration, they became integral to the interpretation of it. This collection of giant interactive seesaws have always sought to make art more accessible through play and give people of all ages agency of the environments they engage with. WIP WAP is a crystallization of the essence of this experience.

The sound design of WIP WAP aims to reflect the unique vocalizations of joy, surprise, awe, wonder, mischief, playfulness and laughter through explorations of onomatopoeia. The soundscape of the artwork is to be interpreted as the unique sounds emanating from the structure and the improvisations of participant expressions layered with the sounds of each environment the artwork inhabits.
