How and why did you decide to pursue your business?
Flourish and Bask has been a dream for years. I spent quite a long time working in downtown Oakville in the 90's when the Lakeshore drag was a real destination for the GTA home décor community. It was the happiest time of my life. After raising my family, and pursuing a career in Halton's non-profit world, I decided it was time to follow my passion and open my own store. It's a true passion project and grew from my love of entertaining, and my newly established obsession with making craft cocktails at home. I think we've all missed entertaining during the pandemic, and I'm hoping to spark that joy in people again.
What are you most passionate about in your business?
I truly want Flourish and Bask to inspire people to host and entertain in their homes. I want to take the fear out of having a dinner party, or serving cocktails. Buy the food, put it on a pretty plate. Hosting shouldn't be intimidating and it should be beautiful. I'd love to connect people and build a community of hosts who share their ideas through our store.
What do you LOVE about Downtown Oakville?
What's not to love?! For more than 25 years, Oakville has been my home, and has been a big part of my family's life. Whether it's my kids spinning on the grass in the square, shopping for a unique gift in a small shop, or having an incredible meal with friends, we've lived our lives here. I am beyond excited to be a part of such an incredible business community.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise others.
I have never had a job outside of Halton region. I am passionate about our community, and spent more than 10 years working in the non-profit community raising awareness and money for some of the best organizations around. I want to find ways to continue to give back where I'm able.
